Happy New Year! We spent a quiet evening at home, just me and John. It was really nice. Today we spent the day Geo-caching and found 9 caches. We got lots of exercise, I took lots of pictures and we had a lot of fun. Tomorrow work starts, well for John. It was great seeing you guys at Christmas.
What is Geo-caching?? We are going this morning to pick up the dogs. We've missed them so much, and the kennel was closed yesterday. It was great seeing everyone! I was so glad you and John came up for the party!! I know BB was too. She never stops talking about how funny you are. So, nothing else new just yet. It's 6:30am and can't sleep. Be back soon!
Geo-caching is like treasure hunting. If you go to geocache.com you can find out more about it. There are hundreds of thousands of people in more than 192 countries around the world who hide things and put them on geocache.com with GPS coordinates. Then you search for them with your GPS. We found 2 in FL while we were there. John and Melissa found 2 in Atlanta. Sometimes it is just a log in thing. One of the ones we found yesterday gave us clues and we would have to find the next clue to get the coordinates. It took us to two old cemeteries. One we just had to read the sign, the other we had to find two grave sites. It was really fun. One in Florida was hidden by a Catholic school group. Lori, Johnny, Kelly, Christy and Tony went with us. Johnny found it. You really need a hand held GPS. When you find the box, you can take something out, but you have to put something of equal or greater value in it. We have been leaving Coke Carabiners. Melissa took a compass key chain, I took some stickers and a snowman ornament. Johnny took a top from one left by Boy Scouts. They are all small trinkets. Yesterday we found a travel bug. This is something in the box with a label saying it is a travel bug. You take it and move it to another location. The person who left it behind can track it as it travels around the world. The one we took came from PA. Any way it is a lot of fun.
I want to go Geo-caching. It sounds like so much fun. Happy New Year everyone. We also had a quiet New Year. Joey spent the night at a friends, so it was just Mike and me. On New Years day we started taking down the Christmas decorations. Its such a depressing job. Putting them up is so much fun with Christmas music playing and waiting for everyone to come. Now it seems so empty and quiet. Well only about 325 days until we start all over again.
Bridget, I made that asian chicken recipe tonight. It was really good. But it doesn't call for a dressing on the salad so I just used my good seasons. Probably would be better with an asian one, will have to try that next time. Mary, I am confused with the caching thing??
My New Year's Eve turned out a bit more wild than I intended. Like puking-in-a-bucket-wild. I spent all day yesterday regretting. Turns out I'm too old to take shots anymore.
Oh and Nancy, Geocaching is really cool. Basically, people take little boxes or tupperware containers (they can be tiny like a pill box or bigger ammunition boxes). They put a log book in them (or just a scroll of paper if they're tiny). And then they hide them, write down the Latitude & Longitude coordinates and log them online. Once they're online, you can look them up (put in your zip code and you'll see how many are near you), and go searching for them using their handheld GPS units. Once you find the caches, you can take somethign out of it (little trinkets) but you're supposed to leave something else behind (John's "signature" is to leave Coca-Cola stuff). You log your name on the log and go online and log it on your account. Then if you want you can hide your own or keep finding more. It's just good wholesome fun (unlike puking in a bucket). People try to put them in interesting places to take you somewhere neat- a pretty statue, a beautiful view, a nice hike. Sometimes there are clues that take you to other locations, sometimes it's just a log book and you can see all the people who have been to the spot before you. The caches are hidden in public places (we found a prescription bottle painted black in the middle of a busy town corner) or more private places (we found another under a bridge in a small, quiet park). Anywhoo, it's good times.
